Mismatched Prayer Tags

Most nights, my beloveds, when we say prayers together before bed, we say the Our Father. And at meals, we will say Table Grace. Now I know how the prayers go, and I know the prerequisite openings and closings. But for some reason, perhaps it’s just way too much time spent with web-page HTML, I have a hard time with what sounds like mismatched tags in the prayers.

I see the prayers like this:

<In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit>
   <Amen>
        Bless us our lord, in these, thy gifts,
        which we are about to receive from thy bounty, through Christ, our lord
</Amen>
<In the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit/>
</Amen>

See what I mean? One of those Amen’s just doesn’t belong.

Either that, or <Amen/> is a singleton tags that can stand all by itself.
Never mind… I guess that’s it.
Prayers are HTML-5 compliant after all.

<Amen/>
